There’s a sacred and powerful way we begin our mornings, the rituals we come back to at night, and the little moments or pauses we take in between tasks. When life feels chaotic, uncertain, or our foundation feels unstable, it’s often not because we’re doing too much—but because we’re not rooted in intentional and meaningful flow.
Humans are cyclical beings living in a very fast-moving world, and without any kind of spiritual structure, we can easily become distracted by all the noise. But when we bring intention into our daily routine, we create for ourselves, a marriage of ordinary life and Divine energy. We create an anchor for our own energy—and this is where our soul begins to expand and grow.
Now I have to say, the word ‘structure’ can impose a feeling of strictness which may have a negative connotation. But let me re-align the meaning of it as it applies here. A structure is something built that is strong. A structure in this context is not intended to add to or create stress. It’s meant to be integrated into everything you are already experiencing. I will explain more in detail….
My Personal Spiritual Structure
This is a big share for me. My spiritual practices no matter how big or small are extremely sacred to me. They are for me, by me and I’ve only ever allowed ME, in — specifically for these practices. I feel at this time it’s important to share the structure and benefits I feel from it though. I hope this helps someone.
Every morning before I even open my eyes, I thank my angels and guidance team for caring for me while I slept. I thank them for travelling with me through all of the realms and I fully experience the feeling of gratitude. As I feel this, I begin to wiggle my toes and fingers and thank all the cells in my body for remaining healthy and working as they should for me (even on the days I feel under the weather). Then I open my eyes. Regardless of what is going on in my life, or what kind of day I had yesterday, I lay in the stillness for a few minutes and appreciate that I am alive and given another day to work toward my soul’s mission. So, I ask my angels, “What are we doing today?”. I put on my invisible seatbelt and surrender to what is.
When my feet touch the floor, I look out my window and say “I claim that today all things are working for me and with me for my highest good. I trust.” This isn’t everyday, but most days. If I don’t speak this outloud, or too tired and forget, as soon as I remember, I spend a moment with my eyes closed and speak it to myself.
As the day moves (mostly fast-paced), with intention, I literally stop to smell a flower or refill my water bottle with thanks that I have clean water to drink. That first sip of morning coffee – “My goodness does it taste amazing!”.
In the evening after the Sun has said it’s good nights, I take a shower, with intention of clearing not just my physical self, but the energetic field around me (water is amazing for cleansing energy). We pick up other people’s energy everywhere we go so it’s important to cleanse and reset somehow at the end of the day. After my shower, I will light a white candle on the new and full moons and for a minimum of 10 minutes, will sit in silence.
Nothing else matters but me coming back to myself and calling back all parts of me that may have drifted a little too far that day.
I build boundaries with everyone in my life and part of why those boundaries exist are so that I can create spiritual structure. Life on planet Earth is not all pink cupcakes and rainbows. We (are on the path to, but) have not reached that Utopian planet quite yet. In fact, a lot of life consists of us working through generational trauma, societal expectations, life purpose questioning, life-death-life cycle of everything and shadows that exist within our own life – we experience all of this for our soul’s growth by the way. But it doesn’t all have to be deep soul work all the time. There is duality. With dark there must be light, with difficulty comes ease — (we will get into duality in another post).
Spiritual structure is a benefit because every human is deserving of understanding who they are when no one else is around to influence them physically, emotionally, mentally and energetically.
As someone who previously lived with extreme anxiety (due to many abrupt life traumas that happened all at once, several years ago) — I no longer live with that anxiety, I see life from a much wider lens, I feel joy even through all of the stress. I understand how to acknowledge and work through the tougher parts of life because I’ve created inner and soul level balance and peace through my sacred practices that I created for myself. Are you picking up what I’m putting down? You need to do it for you, because you are deserving.
Why would this matter to you though?
Why Spiritual Structure Matters
When creating structure for yourself you are opening up to receiving empowerment and support — and the most beautiful part is that YOU are the one truly creating it all.
A spiritual structure has within it, soul-aligned practices or rituals that create flow, reflection, rejuvenation and peace in your day. It’s the “skeleton” that holds your energy as you navigate your soul’s purpose and transform into a more aligned self.
Without this structure, we end up relying solely on motivation or mood, which quite frankly is not always consistent and working in our favor. Some days we’re just not feeling it; we’re not in the mood. With a gentle structure in place, your spiritual self is always supported, especially on difficult days.
A good way to think of Spiritual Structure is that it serves as a form of energetic hygiene: just like brushing your teeth daily, your spirit needs daily moments of acknowledgement and care to feel nourished, grounded, cleansed and balanced.
The Difference Between Routine and Ritual
A routine is something you do regularly and may or may not have active intention behind it. A ritual is something you do mindfully, with respect and devotion. Don’t have a routine. Have intention. Make it so meaningful that you actually upgrade your mood and physical feeling in your body. When you can do this, you begin to change the energetic frequency you emit. When you emit a balanced frequency, the universe responds to you with more ease in your life.
Just as I take a moment to enjoy that first sip of morning coffee, that means your morning coffee can become a ritual too, if you approach it mindfully. Journaling at night can become sacred if you place honor and intention into it.
The goal isn’t to pack your day with spiritual practices. It’s simply to place meaning into what’s already present in your life. Maybe you take public transit to work because you aren’t able to afford a car right now. Consider your travels to work as a gifted journey every morning. New opportunities to meet people, new opportunities to pass on kindness to someone, new opportunities to help someone in need. It’s important to reframe the thought process and place higher meaning in every step of your day. This is where you meet your life as it is, become more conscious and aware – and keep your energy in check.
Simple Sacred Routine Ideas
Here are a few soul focused recommendations to help you create structure. Just pick one at first. Start small. One intentional practice can change your whole frequency very quickly.
Morning Anchors & Intention Setters 1-5 minutes
• Light a candle when you can be home, in a safe space and carefully and set your intention for the day. I do this at the very least on full and new moon days. The color speaks to your intention. White is great for peace, black is cleansing for any negative energy you’ve picked up, purple is amazing for connecting with your soul team and higher consciousness, yellow is great for self-confidence, orange is wonderful for creativity and relationships, blue for communication, red for resetting your energy, green for heart centered thoughts.
• Pull a tarot or oracle card and reflect on its message. The cards don’t have the answer. You do. Ask yourself what intuitive messages you’re feeling and receiving. If you practice with pendulums you can also integrate these.
• Journal one page: “What does my energy need today?” Maybe it needs to be social or maybe it’s a day of complete rest. Maybe it’s a day to focus on your tasks or maybe it’s a day to be extra playful. Create awareness on your needs.
• 5-minute breathwork or body scan to connect before looking at any screens. Pay attention to how your whole body feels. Close your eyes and just start at the bottom of your body and work your way up to the top of your head. Speak healing words to yourself for any discomfort you feel as you scan. “Thank you, body, for creating comfort for me, for working for me. I am grateful.”
Midday Mindful Reconnection 1-5 minutes
• Touch the Earth: “Go touch grass.”, you say? Yes. Literally. Walk barefoot on an earth element (grass, dirt, sand, water), sit near a plant, open a window. Look at the sky and think nothing other than how beautiful it is.
• Pause + check in: Am I aligned with my energy or distracted by noise? What is my body telling me? Do I feel discomfort? Make changes based on your body’s needs.
• Drink water with affirmation: “This water nourishes every cell in my body.” Or “With every sip of water my mindbodyspirit is nourished.”
Evening Confirmations
• Write down three things you’re grateful for or learned today. This is important. When we go through the practice of writing, we retain and process the information on paper. This is an extremely powerful practice as our subconscious will continue with this gratitude (thus raising your energetic frequency as you sleep).
• Cleanse your space: energetically or physically. Wipe, spritz lavender or palo santo, clear. Put that clean laundry away that has been sitting there for three days. Fluff your pillows. Take a shower.
• Listen to soft frequency music as you prepare for sleep. Meditation music works wonders. Nature sounds like waves, birds, waterfalls, thunderstorms also really help bring us back into balance after a long day. Choose whatever resonates most.
This is How You Will Create Your Own Spiritual Framework
You don’t need a perfect morning routine or an hour-long ritual. What you do need is consistency, flexibility, and intention. Pick one sacred check-in per day
Choose one moment (morning, noon, or night) to bring in spiritual awareness.
Make it easy. If it takes more than 5 minutes to get started, it’s too complicated. Start simple. You can always add more later.
Let it evolve over time. Your routines are meant to grow with you as your needs change. What creates nourishment for you in one season of your life may shift in the next and that is totally ok.
Honor the pause. Sacred structure is not about productivity or overthinking. It’s about creating alignment, and these practices become something that you don’t have to actively place effort on because overtime they will feel natural. If you pause and close your eyes for even 2 minutes out of the hour, it can be a very sacred moment for you, if your heart is all in.
Reminder : Creating sacred routines isn’t about adding more to your to-do list. That’s not the goal. We never want to add more. It’s all about reorienting your day around what matters most. It’s choosing to remember your divinity in small, tender moments. It’s working with what you got, and shifting thoughts, taking pauses and remaining mindful so that your soul can exhale in between the chaos of each day.
This week, may you find flow and rhythm that restores you. May your breath feel like a prayer. May your life feel like ceremony. May your soul feel renewed.
With love and light,
Sarah
